Circuit breaker component recalled due to risk of electrical fire

Eaton Industries Pty Ltd has issued a product recall on all Eaton Quicklag ELQ Earth Leakage Circuit Breakers manufactured between 1 April 2004 and 15 December 2016.

The recall follows the discovery of a non-compliant material used in its manufacture. This material may express ionised gases under short circuit circumstances, which creates a risk of fire. A statement issued by Eaton said:

“Building owners, managers and electrical contractors should check switchboards or loadcentres for potentially affected RCBOs. The affected models can be identified by the presence of a green test button. Products without a test button or with a white or an orange test button are not impacted by this recall.”

If you are affected by the recall, you will need to submit a claim which can be done using this form. Once the claim has been processed, Eaton will arrange for a qualified electrician to visit your site and replace the recalled product at no charge.

As this product is one of the most common components used in commercial switchboards in Australia, we strongly recommend that you check your switchboard to see if the recall affects you.
