CFMEU NSW Journey Accident Insurance

The NSW Workers Compensation Legislation Amendment Bill 2012 came into effect on 16 June 2012. As Members are aware the new Legislation has effectively removed coverage for employees travelling to and from their place of employment, except in special circumstances. The Executive team at the CFMEU Construction & General Division NSW has arranged for Accident Journey Insurance for all of our full fee paying financial members. We have arranged the Insurance on behalf of the CFMEU to ensure our Members are not exposed to loss of income if injured on the journey to and from work from 01 September 2013.

The Accident Journey Insurance does not replace previous Workers Compensation arrangements but it does provide an alternative program to Members including the following benefits;

  • Weekly Accident Benefit up to 85% of a members weekly wage to maximum of $2,000 per week
  • Waiting period / excess 30 days.
  • Benefit period of up to 104 weeks

Important information

To be entitled to the benefits of the policy you must be an eligible financial member of the CFMEU NSW branch and be paying full dues. It is important to note that you must be a full member of the Union at the time of the accident to be covered under this policy.  Pre-existing conditions are not insured.

Important definitions

Eligible financial member for journey cover means a person who is a financial member of the Construction Forestry Mining and Energy Union, New South Wales Branch, Construction and General Division. This is a member who has paid full current dues, or is on direct debit or payroll deductions at the time of the accident. This does not include members who are registered as medically unfit or unemployed and paying reduced union fees, Solidarity or retired members,  or members who are not paying union fees, or who are unfinancial members, or in circumstances where there is already an applicable income protection policy.
