Is your business prepared for wild weather?

The damage bill from last months freak hail storm that covered an area from Sydney to Tamworth has already passed $670 million. With many industrial and commercial insurance claims still being assessed, the losses are predicted to grow even further.

Following damages to vehicles, roofs, windows, solar panels, machinery, office interiors and stock, many businesses affected by the storm will be starting 2019 on the back foot.

The hail storm event was declared a catastrophe within a day, making it the fifth such event for 2018. The other four events were the late season bushfires in New South Wales and Victoria, Cyclone Marcus in Northern Territory and Western Australia, the Queensland floods and a severe storm that hit Hobart in May.

Australia is prone to just about every weather emergency there is, from droughts to bushfires, storms to cyclones. With the regularity of these catastrophic events occuring throughout the country, it makes sense to have a plan in place to minimise your losses.

Protecting your business

The Australian Government provides a checklist to help businesses prepare for emergencies and develop an action plan for a range of events. Simple to follow and practical, the checklist is a great place to start for businesses looking to minimise losses during and following an emergency.

You can access the checklist on the business.gov.au website here.
