At the NUW, we are committed to improving the value of your membership and the protection we can provide to all members and their dependants. The union stands by you to ensure all members receive the safety standards, pay, conditions, dignity and rights they deserve in the workplace.

The Union continues to find ways to advance protection of its members against some common causes of loss of income and financially crippling bills.

Therefore, the NUW has established a Member Insurance Benefits Programme, managed through Coverforce Insurance Broking. Under this programme, all eligible financial Members of the Union have Journey Accident Insurance cover.

Note: Eligible financial members will not be required to pay any additional fees above their membership for this coverage.

Journey Accident Insurance

Legislation changes to NSW Workers Compensation Law in 2012 meant that majority of employees were no longer covered when travelling to and from work, except in special circumstances.

In response, the dedicated team at the NUW have introduced Journey Accident Insurance for all eligible financial members of the union. This insurance, managed by Coverforce, provides an income support safety net and better peace of mind for members and their dependants, should something happen on the journey to or from their place of employment.

The Journey Accident Insurance does not replace previous Workers Compensation arrangements but it does provide an alternative program to NUW Members. It will provide;

• Income support of up to 85% of a member's weekly wage to a maximum of $1200 per week (including all regular allowances and penalties)
• A benefit period of up to 104 weeks
• Death & Capital Benefits up to $100,000
• A table that specifies certain injuries where the policy will pay out a fixed amount (such as the loss of an arm or an eye)

Note: To be entitled to the benefits of the policy, you must be a current financial member of the National Union of Workers. You must be a full member of the union at the time of the accident to be covered under this policy. Pre-existing medical conditions are not insured.
